Which is all ignoring the 'pre-pubescent children don't feel attraction, so they hang out naked and don't need gendered bathrooms' retconned into 'yeah i guess the older kids are like 12-14 and one is noted to have but don't worry about it' because he needed a proper antagonist.
Also not to mention the that the penultimate conflict with Bonzo finds them wrestling naked and soaped up in the showers, but turns this suggestive and very not-straight image into a scene of visceral violence and a trauma for Ender.
There is a passage from one of the Ender’s Game sequels that lives rent free in my mind every time I enter a public restroom of like… Bean thinking very hard about which stall to select because appropriately masculine men never select the first stall, if you take the last stall you’re trying too hard, but you can’t take a stall next to a stall next to one that’s already occupied…

#i listened to the audiobook a lot growing up this is my jam#its a good book though a very not perfect one#card too as a writer#he assumed a lot of details are just passively apparent and didn't pick up on them in editing#Ender's Shadow explains that actually there were ladders everywhere that's how they got between floors of the station and retroactively#makes it a contrast between Bean and Ender in how they perceive/address details instead of an oversight on Card and editor's part#or maybe Ender just really hates the word ladder#also Card contradicts himself about the rules surrounding armies stating that Petra rises to the head of Phoenix army and then later having#Ender note that no soldier ever became the leader of the army they just left#like its small things but it shows that hes more concerned with broad strokes
